Casual reminder that The Washington Post is owned by Nash Holdings, which is controlled by good ol’ Jeffery Bezos.
Was going to keep this in the tags BUT I think it’s important people understand that sturgeon caviar is only a luxury in the first place because of colonization. Anishanabae and other Great Lakes area tribes (and I’m sure more I’m just speaking where I am from) have been fishing Sturgeon for literally thousands of years. Besides consuming the fish eggs and meat we also made glue from its bladder, bags from its skin and used the oil from the fish as well. Sturgeon is important to many of our tribes traditionally and spiritually. So much so we even have Clans in honor of the Sturgeon. Than European settler-colonizers showed up and like they decimated Buffalo populations to starve Natives they did similarly with Sturgeon. When they pushed our people onto reservations they also created laws and legislation to keep us from fishing and hunting in our own ancestral lands. Than they built fisheries and Damns, destroying habitats and overfishing sturgeon to near extinction.
a lot of people in the notes are saying “this is the opposite of what happened with Lobster” so I wanted to point out that no it is actually exactly what happened to lobster.

Although there were planes used against the miners in the Battle of Blair Mountain, it is not true that this was the first time planes were used to drop bombs on American soil against Americans.
The Battle of Blair Mountain took place in August and September of 1921. Just a few months prior to that, on May 31 and June 1, planes were also used to help destroy the Greenwood district of Tulsa, Oklahoma, a prosperous black neighborhood nicknamed The Black Wall Street. At least 39 people died during the event, which is known as the Tulsa Race Massacre. Hundreds were wounded, and 6,000 black people lost their homes.
Both of these events were hugely important moments in American history.
Ask yourself why neither was taught to you in school. Also ask your local school board.
One single republican decided to base his vote on a reasonable evaluation of available data and it quite possibly improved thousands of lives. I hope maybe in my lifetime I’ll see an America where that isn’t shocking for a politician to do, and maybe one in which people’s entire well being doesn’t come down to just one extra guy having a shred of decency.
even just from the trailers, you can tell how much love and thought and effort was put into the barbie movie by everyone involved. it reminds me of when i realized the lego movie’s character models had fingerprints and smudges and wear and tear on the “plastic,” or when i learned all the tricks and practical effects the crew of the wizard of oz used to have dorothy step out of sepia kansas and into full-color munchkinland in the same take, or when spider-verse came out and we saw how closely the animation style mimicked a comic book. like….yes please. more of this please.
ken getting arrested alongside barbie after she punches the guy who smacks her ass presents so many possibilities
ken saw barbie punch the douchebag and was like “LET’S MAKE THIS A PARTY” and joined in on the smackdown
alternatively, the guy’s friends tried to jump in and ken wasn’t having ANY of that
ken saw barbie getting shoved into a big car with bright lights on the top and was like “OH BOY! can i come too?? 😊😊” and just kind of tagged along
alternatively, he realized what was going on and was like “EXCUSE ME OFFICER i too have committed A Crime so please show me to The Jail with my beautiful girlfriend” so they wouldn’t be separated
ken got in trouble for trying to help barbie escape but in his defense no one TOLD him resisting arrest is a crime because no one told him what being arrested or crime is
ken didn’t know who these men showing up to take his girlfriend away were, but he could see she was very upset and excuse?? you cannot take barbie away from ken without her permission??? so long story short, ken punched a cop
ken fully burned something down earlier and the cops were like “two birds one stone” when they came to get barbie
my five year plan? read a lot of books. visit museums. walk through woods. stand in a river. adopt a little kitty. drink lemonade while sitting in a rocking chair on my porch.
I love that in Catching fire Katniss comes to the conclusion the other tributes are trying to keep Peeta alive because they must see how amazingly perfectly wonderful he is. When in actuality that’s just her having a crush and everyone else recognizing that if Peeta gets hurt Katniss will go fully feral and unhinged and probably try to kill everyone and then herself.
Forever thinking about how, on election day in 2016, I wore a shirt with an American flag on it because it was what was clean. And the 20-ish year old bagging my groceries made a snide remark about it, followed by ‘I didn’t vote, they’re all the same anyways.’ And a fellow grocery worker chimed in agreement that he wasn’t voting for the same reason.
And now I can’t go to a local drag event without having to walk through a gauntlet of nazis.
I realize that the election is a year and a half away, but please don’t fall for the 'they’re the same’ rhetoric this time around. Both candidates will suck, but they’ll suck in different ways and one of them wants my community dead.
don’t forget during the WGA strike that animation is not covered under the WGA deals and as a result animation has gotten the shortest possible end of the stick in under-staffing, under-paying, and generally turning the field into gig employment.
please sign the petition here for Disney to recognize animation production workers as a union and reblog this post!
